Thing is lobola nayo itself is patriarchal and commoditize women. That man is totally out of line but what he said in essence describes lobola. Though it is euphemistically said to be "uniting two families" we all know that's not the case. U don't need money to do that

Lobola for me was spiritual, it gave me respect from my family and her family. I got a chance to hear her father boost about how much they value their daughter. How I had to take up that role and be what her father was to her and more. The money is not an issue.
