The introductions to the two volumes of the Mueller Report do not contain a single redaction and could have been released in full on March 24 instead of the Barr letter.

In reply to @brianstelter
The tide didn't turn against Nixon until *after* the House held live, televised impeachment hearings. Let the process begin.

I don't know that the Barr letter strategy worked very well at all. Polls showed the public was largely skeptical of the White House's spin. And Trump's approval rating didn't improve at all despite the initially favorable headlines.

In reply to @brianstelter
Remember that Nixon was never impeached!! PUBLIC HEARINGS first, articles of impeachment second..

completely false choice offered there by Allen. i.e. anything short of impeachment = WH win. I mean good grief, the WH claim for month was report was “total exoneration.”

In reply to @brianstelter
I think the opposition to impeachment proceedings has more to do with maths... Better to bleed him dry with legitimate investigations of his administration. Who knows, the ultimate reward to being patient might be criminal charges when he's no longer president

In reply to @brianstelter
Correction: Most Dems are NOT opposed to impeachment hearings! It's the question of timing to get the Senate back since that's the obvious road block to impeachment (House) and indictment (Senate). Also, where's your source that "Most Dems oppose impeachment?"

In reply to @brianstelter
I‘m old enough to remember when the Barr Letter was published. And hearing Wolf Blitzer and his merry pundits going on and on how this was a victory for the President. The „horror vacui“ was strong in them that day. I wonder when they learn to take a deep breath before talking.

In reply to @brianstelter
And cnn played right into it the night the letter was released ppl on cnn claimed TOTAL VINDICATION FOR TRUMP go back and look for yourself you all contributed to this farce. You haven’t learned anything from 2016

In reply to @brianstelter
Naw. I disagee with Mike Allen. It's time journalist get out of the bubble & travel to become better at there read of the country. twitter.com/EricHolder/sta…

In reply to @brianstelter
is full of shit with this take that "most" Democrats are opposed to impeachment hearings when hearings are exactly what most of us want 😒 Nixon did not resign until after evidence was exposed in his hearings. Hearings will help Americans make up their minds in 2020.

In reply to @brianstelter
Mike takes Koch $. Never RT him. As you WELL know Barr's spin worked for maybe 25 hours...NOT 25 days.

In reply to @brianstelter
I don't think so. The needle hasn't moved in either direction. The Dem leadership is behind the curve though and needs to show some spine. Whether actual impeachment is the best way forward is still unclear for many. Its not the only answer.

In reply to @brianstelter
This premise is false on its face. Most Democrats are not opposed to holding the hearings. They are refusing to say that they are ready to impeach. Big difference. And, why isn't the media pressing Republicans about such a damning report?

In reply to @brianstelter
The problem with the press right there. Allen writes as if this was a passive thing the media just had to accept instead of having had a lick of sense that maybe known liars weren’t telling the truth. Instead they went with the spin and still are.

In reply to @brianstelter
His fate has always been in McConnell's hands. So he has nothing to worry about

The Democratic leadership will hold hearings to educate the broader public. It’s a process. I’m impatient, too, but it’s necessary.

In reply to @brianstelter
Maybe because there aren’t “high crimes and misdemeanors” that justify an impeachment process?!

In reply to @brianstelter
Shocker that Mike Allen would declare Trump the winner pic.twitter.com/U7t6R2fwbE

I don't know how much these two things are necessarily related. Absent an absolute smoking gun, impeachment was likely to be a hard sell.

In reply to @brianstelter
So surprised to hear mike take this spin.

In reply to @brianstelter
No, it's not working. Trump's approval rating dropped last month before the Mueller report. Doubt his many now documented crimes will improve his standing. He's still stuck with his dumb supporters who sopped up the Russian propaganda like sponges. The rest of us see him clearly.

In reply to @brianstelter
It is not working. Mike Allen from @axios is a Trump stooge. Axios goes out of its way to give Trump brownie points.

In reply to @brianstelter
Screw doing the popular thing, it's passed time to do the right thing.

In reply to @brianstelter
Wrong, most Americans do want impeachment. Here we come.

In reply to @brianstelter
BS... truth will trump him. More, public hearings will eviscerate their mission accomplished moment.

We don't impeach a President over false charges. Perhaps if you people showed as much interest in investigating @HillaryClinton and the DNC? We'd get to the bottom of how this all started. But you are #FakeNews

In reply to @brianstelter
Are you one of those journos who reported that trump was exonerated? Because if so, then I will definitely NOT listen to you on anything about this.

In reply to @brianstelter
As time passes and people get to process the egregious behavior stated in Mueller’s report people’s minds will change. Impeachment & public exposure is the only option to eradicate the criminal enterprise running out of the White House.

In reply to @brianstelter
BREAKING NEWS: Opinions on impeachments are not the same as realizing a dude is a con man.

In reply to @brianstelter
Democrats must start televised hearings there must be some kind of attempt to show the world and more importantly the people of America that the laws they value so dear will always be upheld regardless of who broke them.

In reply to @brianstelter
Must have been the superman cartoons when I was younger but I'm now accepting I've been doing everything wrong in my life. I think I'll restart with embezzling and work my way up from there. My new motto shall be. Do unto others that which benefits me. I'll re-register to GOP now

In reply to @brianstelter
His approval rating dropped. Next.

In reply to @brianstelter
We are already seeing CNN and other networks doing “man on the street” interviews designed to tamp down interest in accountability. Just today, @CNN asked folks whether they’re tired of the Mueller report yet. The question itself appeared intended to bury the findings.

In reply to @brianstelter
Correlation is not causation. The pragmatic see a different path to accomplish the same outcome, Trump being gone. We know the GOP will never convict ergo a HoR vote will be pyrrhic. The greater risk is the guarantee failure empowers Trump and his base more.

In reply to @brianstelter
The notion that Mike Allen has some special understanding of how Washington works is deeply unhelpful. The Mark Helprin Chair in I Alone Know How the Game is Really Played was empty, and we did not need it filled.

In reply to @brianstelter
“The media filled the 2-year vacuum from election to report with jubilant claims of collusion and it failed.”

In reply to @brianstelter
I don't agree. It makes him look just like what he is: a liar. It makes Barr look like what he is: a paid sycophantic liar, running interference for a criminal @POTUS. trump's hardcore base-the 30% weren't going to be swayed no matter what. Many of us didn't believe Barr & >>

In reply to @ProudResister
true and the introductions to the two volumes of the Mueller Report do not contain a single redaction and could have been released in full on March 24 instead of the Barr letter. …

Pelosi is opposed to impeachment hearings because she knows he'll be acquitted in the Senate, use the whole process to further radicalize his base and them claim "victory & vindication" once more before the election. She understands optics.

In reply to @brianstelter
Nothing to impeach him for you idiot. It's amazing you just won't give it up.

In reply to @brianstelter
Comment on that hack April Ryan calling for Sara sanders beheading

In reply to @brianstelter
Well they’ll be laughing out of the other side of their face if he declares an emergency that cancels the 2020 election.

In reply to @brianstelter
Hillary purchased phony Russia Disinformation from foreign National Chris Steele, which FBI used to weaponize the arsenal of the US gov against her political opponent,Trump. This team of police state Democrat treasonous wrongdoers colluded with Russia-yet still lost. Investigate!

In reply to @brianstelter
Most democrats meaning, the ones who understand that there is nothing. They are the smart ones. Then there are the democrats still reaching for straws. Guys like Brian and many @CNN who have been caught pushing lies for the democrats the last 2 years

In reply to @brianstelter
The fact that this entire thing was started over Trump colluding with Russia and Mueller finding NOTHING may have something to do with this. You said wait for Mueller and we did. Now you can't get over it. It's incredible. Well not really since you chose teams long ago.

In reply to @brianstelter
Well, that wasn’t true. We just want to be strategic about WHEN to impeach, because we can’t count of Senate Republicans to do the right thing. Trumpublicans are so ensnared in Russia/NRA/China/pay-offs/power-grabs, they can’t be trusted to vote #CountryOverParty.

In reply to @brianstelter
They were already opposed to impeachment hearings. Lazy argument.

In reply to @brianstelter
30 odd days to set in place a narrative that paralyzes the truth☁️, stupefies the ignorant, and solidifies the end of “American ideals” once believed in by the majority of the people in the world. #MourningTheLossOfDignity

In reply to @brianstelter
I would allow the reps to draw their own conclusion. Especially after what the Republicans did so hard to discredit the media for, they officially created an environment worthy of being lawless. For the Democrats to let that go ultimately grants them leverage, unless reps act.

In reply to @brianstelter
I think this will prove to be a hot take.

In reply to @brianstelter
Bc Trump was framed.Obstruction is similar to perjury traps...fabricated against the falsely accused for fighting back. To continue, Dems will invite meticulous scrutiny onto the false accusers...Obama does not want that, does he?

In reply to @brianstelter
We are not called Trump supporters. We are called America supporters. We love our country and don’t want it ruined by the people you coddle.

In reply to @brianstelter
Wait till Trump hits back.. You havent seen nothing yet. Sure he defended himself... What would @brianstelter do if he was accused of being a child predator? Shout from the high heavens... Thats what innocent people do? But he claimed no priveledge, stopped no inquiries. pic.twitter.com/Poo9YQrUCW

In reply to @brianstelter
We should all remember that this wasn’t an unbiased report was done by Hillary supporters. It straight propaganda that they used tax payer money to fund while knowing. Russia collusion was a hoax. Obama should have been impeached for fast and furious and his obstruction

In reply to @brianstelter
Pelosi was anti-impeachment all along. But after the redacted report dropped the pressure will be too strong not to have multiple televised hearings and then determine if impeachment is the way to go.

In reply to @brianstelter
Doesn't the media realize it's falling into the Trump leg-trap? He's going to focus all on you because the 2020 dems are a waste of time right now. His base loves it.

In reply to @brianstelter
Democrats fear a #Trump2020Landslide ! They have nothing & are desperate. You and the MSM, aka #FakeNews, will be on the Dem's side!!

In reply to @brianstelter
An outdated 💩 take.👆😠 Does @CNN want #IllegitimatePresident in power bc of ratings?! #disgusting We have seen the Mueller report. Call it impeachment or whatever else, it's time for public hearings to expose full extent of #POS45 's corruption, criminal conduct!

In reply to @brianstelter
Impeachment will drag us down through election. Dems need to Crush 2020 fair and square , kick his ass out & have a nationwide 3-day parade. Then prosecute him for everything under the sun. No pardon. Change laws.

In reply to @brianstelter
When House voted 410 to 4 authorizing Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether sufficient grounds existed to impeach President Richard Nixon, some still cautioned against impeachment. An ABC poll showed 44% in favor and 43% against. google.com/amp/s/www.lati…

In reply to @brianstelter
Just where do you get your information?

In reply to @brianstelter
Maybe they’re opposed to impeachment hearings because there was no collusion

In reply to @brianstelter
Yeah, I would say "no evidence of collusion with Russia by ANY American citizen" is easy to comprehend vindication. Time to move on. You are only helping Trump to win in 2020

In reply to @brianstelter
What's the basis for the "most Democrats oppose" claim?

In reply to @brianstelter
More amoral #GOPHacking . Abuse our process with impunity. Gaslight. Lie. All power . Tear down govt. tear out faith in ethical people. Koch’s paid for this abuse for 50 years and are at their apex with their useful idiot 🍊🤡

In reply to @brianstelter
We can handle 🙄 live, televised #ImpeachmentHearings Do not fear these @TheDemocrats They will be watched by everyone with a screen. Trump will quit. Not resign, quit. Shine a light on a narcissist and they flee. #RIPPatriarchy

In reply to @brianstelter
Trump’s approval rating dropped 3 points.

In reply to @brianstelter
What's the basis for the "most Democrats oppose" claim?

In reply to @BoutrousTed
@BoutrousTed @mikeallen @DevinCow @AshaRangappa_ @ECMcLaughlin That is not why some folks are opposed to impeachment. @TeamPelosi has been opposed to the move from day 1. Others, like myself, have changed and ultimately prefer to vote him out given what happened with Clinton.

Frankly, @SpeakerPelosi & @TheDemocrats appear WEAK! The people I talk to are disgusted with @HouseDemocrats & @SenateDems who are too timid to act. What the F do you think #TrumpSycophants @jim_jordan & @markmeadows would be crying out for if it were @HillaryClinton? #Impeach45

In reply to @brianstelter
They are imposed to impeachment bc they are terrible at politics and don't understand how awful it looks to abdicate constitutional responsibility; not because Trump was vindicated.

In reply to @brianstelter
If only we knew who was president in 2016 and why they didn't do anything about it.🤔

In reply to @brianstelter
Democrats don't know how to fight dirty like Republicans. Yet "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun." -Barack Obama •At a Philadelphia fundraiser as quoted in "Obama: ‘If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun’", The Wall Street Journal (14 June 2008) pic.twitter.com/WswYWn4ibF

In reply to @brianstelter
Hmmm I wonder, could it possibly have anything to do with Trump not being charged of a single crime?

In reply to @brianstelter
And the American public is sick of your twisting the truth

In reply to @brianstelter
It’s working because it’s the truth eunuch! You should try telling the truth. Your ratings will go up. That’s why people who tell the truth like Tucker, hannity, pirro etc all have way higher ratings then you and anyone at @cnn. Because they tell the truth. People like truth!

In reply to @brianstelter
Brian is the new RATIO king

In reply to @brianstelter
How was he not vindicated? The whole premise of the investigation was false.

In reply to @brianstelter
Please add. At this time. Please.

In reply to @brianstelter
Of course it's working. There was no collusion

In reply to @brianstelter
You are a liar and afraid, and nobody wTches your show anymore. How are your ratings? Cancellation is on its way

In reply to @brianstelter
I always read ur tweets in @MarkDice voice

In reply to @brianstelter
Tap out Brian, game over you lost again! Get ready for part 2 coming November 2020 #TRUMP2020Landside

In reply to @brianstelter
I’m for impeachment now, and I kind of understand the political position of investigating first, but I don’t understand the way Dem leadership seems to campaign against it or take it off the table rather than make clear it’s an outcome to pursue (albeit at a conservative pace).
