CNN mass shooting “expert” @JamesAGagliano - who blocked me earlier this year for asking for data to back up his claim that video games spur gun violence - is now television on blaming the Santa Clarita #schoolshooting on mental illness.

Mental illness is not an evidence-based risk factor for violence; 50% of Americans meet criteria for mental illness during lifetime. People with mental illness commit less than 5% of violent crimes and are more likely to be victims than perpetrators.

“So many people have said that mental illness is related to mass shootings from disparate political beliefs, for so many decades, and so many different times that it’s easy to just accept the premise without questioning it.” This is “illusory truth.”…
I can't emphasize this statistic enough.

We also have a US Senate that refuses to even hear common sense gun laws that the US House passed in March. I sure hope @vademocrats make gun sense laws their #1 priority this GA session.

I'm tired of mentally ill folks being the scapegoat for these murders. We're out here fighting our own battles inside. We know pain. The last thing we'd wanna do is hurt other people. The problem is guns. That's it.

You know who's a much bigger threat to the general population? Sane people with guns.

Mental illness is just another excuse for not having better gun laws. Disgusting.

I’m from the UK and now live in the US, we have mental illness in the UK, what we don’t have is numerous mass shootings. What we do have are common sense gun laws so don’t blame mental illness, the problem is guns plain and simple.

I have mental illness and have no desire whatsoever to own a lethal weapon or do harm to anyone. Maybe we should investigate guys with big trucks. As a group, I bet they own a lot of guns.

So what goes on in a kids brain to make him grab a gun illegally and start to shoot his friends? Is it Trump, the NRA or maybe.. I know this may sound crazy but a case of mental illness.

Would you agree violent tendencies is an evidence based risk factor?
In reply to @shannonrwatts
What percent of legal gun owners are responsible for violent crimes?
In reply to @shannonrwatts
People experiencing mental illness are more likely to self harm that to harm others.
