For those of a certain age, this is a really touching tweet.
There's another stalwart of my childhood gone, and this tweet has me a little emotional. #RIPDerekFowlds
Basil Brush saying goodbye to Derek Fowlds is the saddest thing I've ever seen. That's another part of my childhood gone. RIP Mr Derek. Boom Boom sir.
I may be a sap, but I am actually a little moved by this...
So sad to hear of Mr Derek's passing. @RealBasilBrush was a big, and very silly, part of my childhood (always wanted a Basil of my own, when I was a wee boy). And Derek Fowlds was perfectly cast as the semi-hapless Bernard Woolley, too.

#DerekFowlds #BasilBrushShow #YesMinister
Rest in Peace Mr Derek, thankyou for many happy childhood memories 😔😔😔 #MrDerek #DerekFowlds

Very sad news. Derek Fowlds was another part of my childhood with Basil B and then early grown up years in Heartbeat. Such a funny man.....RIP Mr Derek. You brought joy and laughter to millions, for decades. What a legacy!

I just heard the news here. Derek was the earliest companion for Basil Brush, that I can just remember and I grew up with Derek Fowlds as a fine actor on TV fro many years since. RIP
A high point of children's TV. Witty, daft, clever. RIP #DerekFowlds thanks for the happy memories.
Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of Derek. A children’s TV favourite.

We still say ‘you’re not like this when we are playing Snakes and Ladders together’ What a lovely part of my childhood you and Mr Derek were, a very sad day. RIP to a TV great 🦊
Good afternoon Twitter, though for me a sad one.
In the 1960s my grandfather invested a small fortune out of his meagre weekly wage to buy our family a bulging, square, black & white TV that took at least 2 minutes to warm up.
And this is what I saw when it did. RIP Derek Fowlds.
Such wonderful memories growing up of this special actor - and also for his role in Yes Minister. Well played sir. RIP #DerekFowlds
In reply to @realbasilbrush
Basil, you should give the eulogy, on Twitter.
This has just brought a tear to my eye.
A true gent & a real one off. Derek was an absolute joy to work with, so warm, giving & knowledgable and massively supportive of the arts in Bath not hesitating to come forwards and help us with our fight against arts cuts. He’ll be missed. Love to all his family 💜 #DerekFowlds

The only fox I'm going to tweet about today.
In reply to @realbasilbrush
Oh no! Loved Mr Derek and Basil. If that means you are homeless Basil, you can come and live with me. Always got a cup of tea and a ginger nut ready xx
😢 What a part of my childhood this man was. The finest foil that fox ever had. RIP
Such a versatile talent. His role in Yes Minister/ Prime Minister my favourite. But also a bluff but loveable character as the police sergeant-turned-pub landlord in Heartbeat. Warm memories of Derek Fowlds RIP
Genuinely just nearly cried at this
In reply to @realbasilbrush
I’m so sorry xx I loved hearing you ask Mr Derek for a Pokey-Pola. Such a great friendship, remembered forever.
In reply to @realbasilbrush
very sorry for your loss - watching one of your episodes together with Mr Derek right now. #DerekFowlds, you will be missed. RIP 😢 youtube.com/watch?v=qPozif…
Sad to hear this. Derek did a lovely My First Job for me in The Stage, in which he remembered and acknowledged all of the cast members from that job five decades plus ago. ❤#RIPDerekFowlds

I met Mr Derek recently in his local pub although I didn't realize it was him until after he left. A really nice man
Another sweet sliver of childhood borne downstream.

I remember going to see the filming of Basil Brush with Derek Fowlds as Mr Derek at the BBC studios what a great connection he had with lovely Basil Brush the Fox and the audience❤️
Only just realized that he played Bernard in Yes Minister. A perfect foil - for Sir Humphrey as well as Basil. RIP.
"Who dunnit Mr Derek? I think it was Paganini."
"Paganini? Who's that?"
"There at the bottom of the page Mr Derek."
"No, Basil. That says page nine."
This is just the sweetest, saddest thing. This tweet, and the responses, tell you everything you need to know about British people. Big hearts. Big, big hearts. RIP Mr Derek.
Yes he was Bernard Woolley to some, but he was always Mr Derek to me.
