This is what Ontario is going to do: shut down the things that have absolutely zero to do with the problem and staunchly refuse to do any of the things that would solve it. They're going to lean into ludicrous "Look, we did something!" COVID theatre while the hospitals explode.

This is one of the stupidest things I have seen in the pandemic, and my list stretches to the sun

Ah yes, the infamous COVID hotspot: my tent in the woods.

In reply to @ONresources
Please explain to me how camping spreads covid. You know, the activity that involves retreating into the bush AWAY from large groups of people? Camping is an isolative activity

But it’s totally fine to go to your cottage, right? Once again the government is showing us exactly what kind of people they are for.

Because of all those campground super spreader events? Please, let's limit govt solutions to actual problems. @zeynep

Can i camp on a construction site? In an Amazon warehouse?

Campers didn’t hire the right lobbyists

of all the things the province has done thus far, this might be the dumbest. it's just complete theater. a non-issue entirely. in fact, the campers instead sitting in their apartments & homes with shitty ventilation are more of a risk with an aerosolized virus

I swear, Ontario is using a random regulation generator.

This is just them trying to look like they're doing something. As if one of the main vectors of transmission is a family camping in the woods in April

Yes all those people alone in the unmarked woods in single digit weather, they are the culprits

it’s ‘public land’ for political purposes but ‘crown land’ for ‘fuck you’ purposes.

In reply to @ONresources
This is the equivalent of prohibiting the use of bike lanes to combat CO2 emissions.

This makes zero sense. On one hand, scalpers are using bots to snap up camping sites. On the other, now you can't camp on Crown land? How is camping on Crown land spreading COVID-19?

literally what? these mfs are doing the most useless shit just to say they did something.

Now who’s stupid idea was this

So it's not the essential workers, teachers or students. It's the campers.

GTFOH

In reply to @ONresources
literally the dumbest thing I have heard of so far ... you realize if you are a back woods camper that you are most likely alone or with someone from your home. #FordfailedOntario

"no more camping on the land we stole, but your boss can keep stealing your time & maybe your life"

Oh good. They've solved everything.

ah yes, another super effective measure!

My uncle caught Covid from a pine tree. Never would have guessed it if it weren't for that spruce tree with the mumps. Who knew bureaucrats were so in tuned to trees? It explains why they have sticks shoved up their asses instead of sticking in the mud.

Ontario’s trying to put out a forest fire by spitting in the wrong direction.

My partner and I went camping last summer at Oastler Lake. We were approx 30m from the next tent. The indoor showers were closed bc of covid & in 3 days I came w/in 6 ft of another human fewer times than I do during a 20 min walk in our Toronto neighbourhood. @ONgov pls explain.

🙄🙄🙄🙄
This govt is doing the most with the least.

These mfs will do anything except what experts are recommending

Don't go to the woods you fucking idiots! Covid is spreading too quickly.

Now I gotta tell ya, Timmies have got these great new wraps, I had one for lunch today and they're great so shout out to Timmies - Doug Ford

In reply to @ONresources
Is there a dataset that aligns to taking this useless step to fight covid? Link please! Oh wait - there isn't any.

We are governed by numpties.

Finally, the government is taking decisive action on the enormous risk to public health that is... wait for it... Crown land camping. I’ll have to celebrate by going to one of the thousands of golf courses that remain open. 🏌🏼‍♂️/s

Ontario: where the only people who can use tents are doctors (when they're treating people in field hospitals)

Finally. It's hard to say whether camping on crown land has caused more COVID deaths than going into the school supplies aisle at the dollar store, but it's certainly a relief to see government taking the threat of people spending time isolated in the wilderness seriously.

This is sad. I can think of a number of other closures that would be much more impactful on reducing the spread of COVID-19. #onpoli #COVID19Ontario

This is just stupid. If camping is a problem (it's not) then close down all camping. If bush parties on crown land are a problem then stop them cus that's not camping & not allowed anytime eh

In reply to @ONresources
But what about provincial parks? Covid doesn’t spread when you pay a fee to camp?? 🤨

In reply to @ONresources
This makes no sense

In reply to @ONresources
this accomplishes exactly nothing, great work

And still no paid sick leave.

Ford’s advisers are not physicians not epidemiologists, not very strong academically. Aldasteinn Brown, is the Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, @UofT_dlsph, and Matt Anderson. He is the CEO of @OntarioHealthOH @DrEricHoskins @cdavidnaylor pic.twitter.com/VCppC6wnmk

Government in the business of keeping people out of nature to save us from a virus that spreads indoors

I cannot believe my 👀 rn. 😡
Are we f***ing for real with this 💩?

How many hours were WASTED coming up with this measure that will have ZERO IMPACT on #Ontario's dumpster fire?

A child knows how inconsequential this "restriction" is. This gov is full of 🤡
#FordfailedOntario

Eeehh... that's like REALLY outside. #COVID19

This suggests images of Doug Ford and the cabinet gathered around a table with a big, disordered list of everything that hasn't been shut down, and they select something to close at random. #COVID19 #COVID19Ontario

This entire government is full of morons.

This is monumentally stupid. Campaign is not the issue. Lack of paid sick days and a horrible vaccination rollout+communication is the fucking problem.

Being outside is the problem?! What is really going on here???

Seriously? I’m pretty sure that back country camping is not a major infection vector for COVID-19. Can we start taking real action in Ontario and not these token ones?

In reply to @ONresources
Closing crown land camping in Ontario is ridiculous. Show me the science instead of making another rash decision. Also Im alone in my boat, enjoying the peace and quiet of being outdoors. Me and the fish.

Why give people paid sick leave when you can just take away safe activities

In reply to @ONresources
"Everyone please stay crowded together in the cities, to prevent the spread of covid" @fordnation @JYakabuskiMPP have you lost your f$&#@ng minds?! And all common sense!?!

Pandemic theatre from @fordnation: Let's shut down the things that don't spread the virus so it looks like I am doing something while the lobbyists who have bribed me get to keep their crowded indoor workplaces running.

In reply to @ONresources
But golf is still ok. Fuck you @fordnation

There are no words left to describe how incompetent our government is.

HAHAHAHAHA

I’m locked and loaded and ready to fall off my chair again tomorrow to more bogus modelling.

This province is absolutely fucked.

Because camping is the problem here.....🤦‍♀️

The name of the game is: “let’s make a list of reasonable interventions to address the pandemic, and then do the EXACT opposite”

Go outside. No wait, not that far outside. Don't stay inside, fresh air is good for you. Stay inside. No really, outside is good. Not over there though. Or there. #covidontario

How many cases been traced to people camping on Crown land? The only reason to do this is so the government can say it did *something* to distract from botched vaccinations, and willfully ignoring doctors until it was too late.

Cute graphic though.

It's a hallmark of white male privilege to just assume that you are right, regardless of what people with actual expertise might say. The leadership of the Regressive Conservative Party of Ontario is very white and very male, and VERY dumb.

Thank God Crown land camping is finally closed. Obviously this is where the majority of COVID cases in Ontario are coming from....

No sick leave for Ontario workers but here's @fordnation's "brilliant" idea.

Do you know how much Crown land there is? 87% of Ontario's land mass is Crown land. How is this possibly effective OR enforceable?

In reply to @ONresources
im going to camp on the golf course instead ;)

While I can appreciate backwoods camping has its dangers and increased injuries would strain hospitals, this is just stupid.

In reply to @ONresources
Experts agree outdoor is generally safe, why do this?!

Science. Fresh air outdoors and social distancing contributes to spread of covid.

In reply to @ONresources
This is our political leadership making a decision based on what?

In reply to @ONresources
Just making shit up hoping it works

Why is our government so f*n stupid? No camping, but workplaces that are known to have high transmission rates are fine. WTF

In reply to @ONresources
Ontario is 87% crown land. 870,000 square kilometers. 124 GTA's. 1238 Toronto's. Tens of thousands of camping spots. Not provable, not logical, not enforceable. -5 tonight, but fuck it. I'm going camping. With 26 friends. On crown land.

In reply to @ONresources
Could it be because people from hotspots will be travelling and going into small towns and spreading the virus

This absolutely sent me

Next on the Ford governments restrictions on outdoor activities done in small groups:

Wow. Something tells me this is not the problem right now.

Ah yes cancelling camping... that oughta do it
