I had a really well meaning message sent to me today about how "lucky" our whangai children are to "have us".

Here are some reasons why I really, really don't like it when people do that (said with love because of course the intentions are lovely).

Being a whangai parent is not some great favour you bestow upon a child. Every single child born into this world has a right to feel that they belong, that they have a right to be loved and included as a matter of being born their beautiful selves.
