Economic theory predicts that, as prices rise, households & firms reduce demand and substitute. We're starting to see more and more such cases

Several examples are cases of substituting domestic gas consumption to produce goods by importing goods (produced by foreign gas consumption). The only actual result is the loss of economic activity and most likely employment. But yes, we survive the winter.
