I keep seeing this over the past few weeks (not just from this person) and it's an odd talking point to me. The last three Cups have been won by teams with two players making over $9M so we've drawn an imaginary line at 10 to make it seem important. What point is being made?

no player making over 10 has won a cup.

Only 14 players (MacKinnon will be the 15th when his contract begins) make 10M or more right now and 7 of those players are on four teams. This dumb talking point will just morph into something new as player salaries continue to elevate.

I think the point is, when you spend so much on a few players, it’s really hard to fill the depth with any quality. That’s what I gather from it. Hence why Edmonton is good and bad.

Anyone who has this conversation as a flat # instead of a % of the cap isn't smart enough to have the conversation in the first place. Great tell tbh, saves a lot of time

No player making 12.6 million has ever scored a point in the NHL.
