Literally anyone is better than the cops.

So I made the mistake of learnng more about this. Our society failed this young human on several counts. Officer was charged with voluntary manslaughter... and then acquitted in 2016 (this murder happened in 2014). dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9…

Mental health problems should not be within the purview of law inforcement. Dont involve police in mental health crises.

Always baffles me how leftists will shout ACAB then argue you shouldn't own a gun and only cops can wield them

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
This happened a few years ago in my town. Parents Called the cops on a mental health crisis because the kid was having a bipolar attack and the cops shot him dead. It’s not an isolated incident.

Who are we supposed to call when the killers are the cops?

TW meurtre, psychophobie, violence policière

Here is a link to a different article. It should be noted that the victim had a screwdriver and was behaving erratically, which is why the police were called. Also this reports that an officer was stabbed but protected by their vest. nydailynews.com/news/national/…

When I was in psychosis/catatonic, the cops put me in shackles + handcuffs. I literally was trapped in a traumatic scene in my head, nonverbal, having seizures, + paralyzed. If it weren’t for my mom, I would’ve been thrown into a cell like this. I share my story for this reason.

There is no reason police need to be armed at all times.

Countless lives would be saved every year with that small change.

Reminder that the state sees us (disabled, neurodivergent, and more specifically people with psychotic disorders) as burdens, inconveniences, and at worst, threats. Society will always push us to the fringes. They rather we be homeless, jailed, or at worst, dead than well

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
This happened in Colorado. A man was killed by police just to move it along

We should have better cops, yes

When your only tool is a hammer every problem looks like a nail

This is sickening. Bullshit like this almost makes me glad I'm dying. This is such a shitty world and I've lost all hope that it will ever heal.

the police also literally shot a 15 year old girl who was escaping from her kidnapper

Someone had a mental health problem in my neighborhood. We talked calmly to her and asked what she needed. We called a trusted person to take her to her grandma's house. No cops needed - probably would have shot someone anyway.

Peak ableism holy shit

As someone who has a parent with schizophrenia.. this fucking terrifies me and makes my blood boil

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
I live near where this happened. The cops where regularly called to that house to help that guy out and had been handling it well, peacefully calming him down and offering assistance as they could.

When we say "defund the police"? THIS. It's for shit exactly like this. Because instead of some trigger happy pig, you could send a social worker or even a small team of social workers who could have safely brought that young man to get some help.

Fuck the police.

Love how they pick and choose when they call someone a child vs man. ACAB

But im wrong for not liking the police.

Don't have time for this ... because... there was something more important than doing your job...?

Call a fireman next time... they run into danger to help people

As a schizophrenic who has dealt with cops and even nurses and doctors, this crap isn't surprising sadly. And it's terrifying.
R.I.P. to him ❤️

Nah I’m still calling the cops if someone is being raped/murdered 🗿

I honestly consider calling in a wellness check to be the same as swatting someone. That shit is attempted murder. If anyone ever does it to me, I'll never speak to them again for any reason.

Call a crisis line, call an ambulance, don’t call the police.

cops killed paul boyd who was having an episode 9 times and despite being filmed no charges were pressed against the cop
like the 911 call reported that he was having some kind of mental breakdown type episode (he was bipolar) and the cops still shot him in the streetst

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Im not calling them Nazis.... But sadistic SS officers did this kind of shit.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Half of unarmed people killed by the police have a mental illness. Even people usually critical of the police often overlook this because victims get written off as dangerous even though mental illness makes you less likely to commit violence and more likely to be a victim of it.

Cops are terrorists

The police aren't people. They're monsters, and they need to be treated as such.
Period.
End of discussion.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
I really appreciate the awareness that you post for these issues. Thank you

Standard cop shit

When cities increase investment of tax payer money in municipal services rather than giving so much to police (effectively defunding the police), those resources can be used to support those with the proper training and compassion to help people and prevent killings like this.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Unfortunately this is rampant in policing. If even one of these guys exists in every precinct or sheriff's office or trooper barracks across the country, it's far, far too many.

Today on why Buckshot fucking hates cops.

hi it’s me again! Is there any more information on this one?

You know the last @yourewrongabout pod was about Millennials killing the serial killer but maybe they’ve all just joined the cops instead

Good Ole North Carolina where our cops make Judge Dread look like a teddy bear

Even if they don’t say it, I believe a lot of cops who shoot people in the middle of a mental health crisis, are thinking along these lines.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Some of the worst, most deranged men of society are in the police force by disproportionately high numbers and this needs to change. The standards of joining are way too low.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
All cops are bastards lady and cowards

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Maybe the death penalty should only exist for cops when they do shit like this.

the only time i’d call the cops for a mental health call is to actually die. they’re good at that part.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
"Shot dead man" is a really weird way to say "murdered".

There are numbers to call if someone is experiencing a mental health crisis and 988 for suicidal thoughts. Please call these numbers first and you will be connected to professionals with extensive trainings for situations like the one described below

They’re not trained to handl- then they should contact someone who is.

Police call other services on the scene all the time. The dispatcher can choose to contact someone appropriate, or police can call them in.
If they can’t handle a situation, they can’t just destroy a person.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Why did he shoot an 18 year old dead man with schizophrenia? I didn't know you could even shoot schizophrenia at people, even if they're dead! #CommasMatter

Lmao I’ll never forget getting a lecture from the pos cop that night some prick tried to break into my house 😂😂😂

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Yea, at this point im more scared of US cops than Méxican cops

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
It’s literally your job, what time is their to waste?

Daily reminder a handful of horror stories do not erase the very effective, helpful, and crucial impact the police have on keeping people safe. People who genuinely think calling the cops are a bad idea need to step foot outside their middle-class suburban neighborhood.

Call an ambulance when faced with a mentally disabled person, i am BEGGING you.

Cops will absolutely kill them; those bastards are heartless and not trained for that.

Over a year ago, and sadly still relevant. Hell, you can find articles about this kind of thing from decades ago, and nothing ever changes.

In reply to @JoshuaPHilll
Reading about shit like this makes me mad enough to spit nails. 💔
