@Channel4News⁩ tonight. Some of the dredging for the freeport must be dumped onshore because it is so toxic. Large areas will still be dumped at sea and this is where many readings exceeding global standard level for sea dumping are found

Wonder how many locals feel about Brexit now. Their lobster market crashed and their sea poisoned.
Powerful investigative reporting by @alextomo and @NanettevdLaan on the history & dredging of the River Tees "Free Port". Guidelines were waved - releasing vast amounts of toxic waste - resulting in the horrendous mass dieback of many sea creatures. Can it be stopped? #C4news 👇
Important viewing tonight on the toxic dredging at Teesport. It’s an outrage.

These people are environmental criminals. They should be prosecuted.

Not a good start. Badly researched prospect it’s said. Many knew of the industrial waste in that area either from steel and metal working or chemical industry. Expensive and will take a long time

An outrageous exploitation of the environment. An issue our environment secretary should prioritise @ranil. Our earth is not disposable. Our children and grandchildren need it too.#EnvironmentalSustainability #saveourplanet

From what I know it’s sometimes the case that harbour ‘dredgers’ avoid contaminated disposal regs by not actually lifting out. The practice is to disturb the contaminated sediment from the channels on the high tide so that it gets carried out of the harbour on the receding tide.

Shocking -this must be stopped!
My homeland getting, quite literally, shat on again. That’s what they meant when they said ‘levelling up’ in the NE. Don’t vote Tory again.
