At the risk of overloading the @TrentAA situation, this is 饾櫓饾櫇饾櫄 definitive answer on why the @LFC right-back gets exposed defensively. Jurgen Klopp is willing to take the risk for the reward. (1/2)

J眉rgen Klopp shutting down all experts, journalists, supporters with a deep explanation on why Alexander-Arnold (mainly) gets exposed defensively and why Southgate doesn鈥檛 play him. Simple: Liverpool play bravely, England don鈥檛.

This is a great explanation for why Trent鈥檚 side is targeted during transitions and can be applied elsewhere. It鈥檚 not a good explanation for how poorly Trent defends as an on-ball defender. J眉rgen鈥檚 obviously going to defend Trent in totality, though, which is understandable.

This right here. This is why he's an elite manager and the rest of you mostly are armchair/microphone analysts

Great explanation of pressing!

Masterclass in Kommunikation. J眉rgen Klopp macht das manchmal fantastisch. Beide Videos sehr zu empfehlen.

Doesn鈥檛 account for how easy he gives up or jogs in defensive situations.

Being high up and unable to get back isn鈥檛 the issue here. It鈥檚 being in position and stopping

We鈥檝e known this for years now鈥 bet he鈥檚 sick of repeating himself 馃槶 if you want a player like Trent to be used more as an attacking player you won鈥檛 get the same output defensively, it鈥檚 just common sense and logic

Absolutely spot on from Klopp here. 馃憞馃憞馃憞

Everyone who says Klopp isn't a tactically astute manager, or that he's just "vibes" and "passion" should watch this.

He knows far more than any of us, the difference is that unlike Pep, he's not trying to show us how clever he is all the time.

I always call Trent can't defend claims as obsessions that our rivals and some of our fans can't do without, and am fine with it these days since for me I know the right thing just as Klopp has put it.

Enn茅l jobban senki nem tudja megmondani, hogy mi茅rt t疟nik Trent v茅dekez茅si probl茅m谩nak, pedig k枚zben csak utas铆t谩st k枚vet, amivel egy sz谩m铆tott kock谩zatot v谩llal a csapata.
Mi茅rt?
Mert 艖 adja ki ezeket az utas铆t谩sokat.

He's not superman, at 23, he still has stuff to learn but there's only so much running that any player can do. He's covering a whole flank whilst running a game from RB. At the same time he barely gets a rest as there's no real replacement. People need to wind their necks in.

Great video. It's easy to forget that Trent plays effectively as a wing-back but in a back four formation. Always going to more exposed defensively than actual wing-back protected by a back three i.e. Reece James.

Jurgen Klopp explaining about his press and Trent's role in his press. He talks about how the CB is supposed to cover for TAA when he goes forward on the asking of Klopp.

鈥淭he biggest risk is to not take any risk鈥.

Perfectly put ..for once 馃憦馃徎馃憦馃徎 Too many people watching football 鈥榚xpect 鈥 the perfect game from every player !! And they鈥檒l pick out the things that go wrong more often than not . Sounds familiar hey 馃憖馃檮 Grassroots can be just the same 馃檲 Pick out the positives please 馃憤馃徎鈿斤笍

This is great from Klopp. Trent does most of his defending after doing a lung bursting run forward. My only criticism is he doesn鈥檛 run back intensely enough at times. But it鈥檚 defo a risk/reward situation, which Liverpool have been rewarded for mostly throughout Trent鈥檚 career.

Fantastic explanation, but football Twitter is not about logic, it is about memes and agendas, my Trent memes will not cease.

You鈥檙e never going to hear better analysis than this. It pretty much summarises my thoughts on why the continuous Trent defending hysteria is (almost) hopelessly futile.

In reply to @carlmarkham
All good and true but it鈥檚 unforgivable how he has been asleep so far as players run past him and he doesn鈥檛 even track back. I鈥檓 sorry, he doesn鈥檛 get a free pass on this basic principle because he is Trent. Utd and Napoli, he is barely jogging.

Will not stop me laughing at Trent like they do to our players regardless of context, but I admire Klopp for this. Very rare to see full fledged defence of a particular player from managers to the point of saying 'thing you're criticising him for is the thing I asked him to do'

This is amazing, top interview.

I鈥檝e always said this. We seem to always focus on what a player can鈥檛 do instead of what they are world class at.

Other countries have such a different mentality to England. We have a safety first, risk averse, play not to lose mentality.

In life, not just football.

Why is Trent so bad at defending?
Klopp 鈥淧itch is too big鈥

Lol Liverpool fans bout to wear out this video like he said something sensational. TAA is a bad defender n it becomes more apparent the less his team dominates the ball. He shouldn't start for England imo it's very simple

Exactly what me and @StePlunk have been saying for time now, you can鈥檛 have Trent as the best attacker and the best defender. We focus on him being the best attacker

Klopp is so smart trent can defend you biased haters

yeah he's losing it

Jesus Christ I can鈥檛 believe he has to explain this

We鈥檒l stay have the same pundits and rival fans commenting that he鈥檚 out of position tomorrow.

Here鈥檚 Klopp explaining all of this in great detail 鈥 glad to see my eyes weren鈥檛 deceiving me and I鈥檓 not going mad:

been saying it鈥檚 the system

A well curated bullshit.

Far be it for me to compliment a manager for the Scousers; but, I actually love this. He gave a detailed tactical breakdown, which not only informs casuals of the errors in their analysis, but also takes pressure off of his player.

Love this from Klopp. Rare that you get such detailed tactical insight from a manager at that level.

Being saying this all along in the What's App groups and on here, what Jurgen wants and rewards he gets from Trent outweighs the risk.

Beautiful. Love when coaches give analysis, helps you understand the game better.

In reply to @carlmarkham
I just love him, you'd run through brick walls for him wouldn't you?

This right here is an explanation of why England will never win anything with Southgate. He's safety first. All the best managers set up to win games. English managers set up not to lose. Liverpool fans always expect their team to try and win. There's the mentality difference

Okay, sooo, let's accommodate a man that constantly screws up in his actual position just because he'll swing in the odd cross or 50 further up the field 馃憣

Say it louder Jurgen

Love this, he鈥檚 fucking spot on too

脟a change absolument rien, OK tu lui demandes de faire autre chose dans l鈥檃nimation mais d茅fensivement il est toujours aussi 茅clat茅 et ce n鈥檈st pas normal

Absolutely love this 馃憦馃憦

And Trent can actually defend even when he's out there playing that high.

This has been clear since day one to everyone who's been paying proper attention. The rest won't understand it even if Klopp gives them a phone call and explains everything to them directly.

In reply to @carlmarkham
Trent doesn鈥檛 get exposed as Jurgen explained clearly because of being the highest press so the other 3 defenders are exposed due to the system we play and all of Trent鈥檚 other qualities with the ball. Explaining why trent has the amount of assists he has.

well only non football players could not understand the things about Trent role in the team.

The quotes are acting like we ain鈥檛 seen donny get smoked out his loafers or fall asleep defensively. Klopp isn鈥檛 mourinho to throw his guys under the bus

what a manager ffs

Him getting forward has no effect on him losing every header at the back post. Or losing one on ones. Or stopping running against Napoli. Ultimate question dodge to get the casuals onside

I鈥檇 die for this yellow toothed nazi bmt

In reply to @carlmarkham
If Trent was that bad, so why Liverpool loses a game or two a year ?

In reply to @carlmarkham
No need to explain yourself Klopp.

I know nobody interact with on twitter is stupid enough to not understand football tactics.

But for the avoidance of doubt... Listen to the manager who tells Trent how to play.

In reply to @carlmarkham
Creatively he is in a league of his own, well him and Dani Alves. You have to find a place in the team for someone like that

The man just talks sense doesn't he

One for the dumb fucks

Klopp wants to win. Southgate is scared to lose

La misma raz贸n por la cual, en mi opini贸n, Trent es el lateral derecho perfecto para el Bar莽a. Es el tipo de lateral que Xavi necesita y sabe usar.

In reply to @carlmarkham
Cause He鈥檚 too good that鈥檚 why people don鈥檛 like him

Fucking suck on that all the wannabe pundits after a game asking where Trent is when half our fanbase can see what鈥檚 up. Imagine getting paid to not understand why Trent is in certain positions.

Ahhhh, Klopp 馃槍 my manager.

Look, I understand he has to defend his player no matter what but surely he doesn't believe everything hes saying here? Obviously hes referring to the system and Trent is prob the most important part but I could thread 5 clips of him this year alone not tracking back/caring. dfkm

Not worked out too bad has it

Love jurgen. He鈥檚 absolutely spot on by the way. There is no other outrage when another fullback in the premier league makes a mistake.

In reply to @carlmarkham
I want to do all my courses with this man as Instructor, from PDP1 right up to my UEFA badges!!!! It's just so simple!!!

Absolutely love this 馃憦馃憦

THANK YOU JURGEN. THIS IS WHAT I SAY.

In reply to @carlmarkham
That鈥檚 the boss being boss.

In reply to @carlmarkham
saying this for years to other Liverpool fans more recently that鈥檚 the way klopp sets the team-no one complains when TAA is crossing high up the pitch for an assist but when we concede everyone asks where鈥檚 Trent? BEST attacking player for us & when he doesn鈥檛 play well we don鈥檛

In reply to @carlmarkham
Actually a cracking video & question - we really need to FOUL when teams break on us - just like Rodri does. Just take a card if needs be. AA really does need to defend 鈥榖etter鈥 in some situations aswell.

Bana! Perfectly Explained.

Angry Klopp >>>

We know this tho?

Trent鈥檚 ability going forward outweighs what he lacks defensively, essentially in a team so ball dominate as Liverpool

In reply to @carlmarkham
This shouldn鈥檛 even had to be explained lol soooo obvious but agenda I guess

In reply to @carlmarkham
I鈥檇 really worry about Trent getting exposed defensively in the World Cup. The standard of international football is incredible, and Iran pose a major threat in the group stage
