At the 1998 Grammy’s PAVAROTTI was to perform ‘Nessun dorma”, but his Doctors said no, he was in no fit state.

The Producers went to ARETHA FRANKLIN’s dressing room & after listening to a tape of a rehearsal just once, she went on stage & did THIS.

I love Aretha but this rendition of Nessun Dorma is not for me. Butchered it.

Once many years ago l had the honor of being hired as part of the backup band for her show at the Santa Barbara Bowl. This was part of her set. Simply amazing.

Mate, it was like ordering breakfast for her. She could have pulled that off if she had never heard it. There are few in the world who ever came close to Aretha
And to think she did this at a moment's notice, amazing.

Producer: So uh... you sing gospel... uh... can you, uh ... cover an Italian aria with no rehearsal?

Aretha: Gotcha covered.
Possibly the most moving song ever written, and a hellava performance.
I sobbed through this. And when she added the extra flourishes I started laughing too. Man oh man. The Queen!
Aunque no entienda lo que dice entiendo el sentimiento que transmite. WOW!
Aretha back phrasing in Opera like it's a Gospel song ♥️
Genius- JUST PURE INCOMPARABLE GENIUS! To have seen that Grammy program was a blessing, to have that performance on film for posterity is precious- because otherwise future generations would likely not believe it. SUCH A TALENT ! SOOOOO SORELY MISSED!
One of my favorite performances to date 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I remember watching this— absolutely jaw dropping!
This is just fabulous. Aretha had to sing this in a lower key to accommodate the orchestra, and she did Pavarotti and Puccini proud, while adding some Queenly touches to own the moment.
What an absolutely amazing voice!
People complain about this rendition of Nessun Dorma but she had to sing this in Pavarotti's lower key, so she had keep her voice within her range.

Impressive improvisation on the fly like this with that in mind
Prepare to cry. Sunday gospopera. The imperious Aretha outshines Pav at 1998 Grammy's.
Mi cerebro jamás hubiera podido ni tan siquiera imaginar que esto haya sucedido en algún momento. Emocionado me hallo 😱😍👏🏾👏🏾
