I used to be vaccine hesitant. Had my kids on a modified schedule and felt I was VERY educated. Here are posts I made in 2010 about visiting public health with Charlie, 2 months at the time.

By this point though, some critical thinking had started to sink in. Let me explain.

When pregnant with Charlie I was pretty resentful of ‘unnatural’ obstetric care and was convinced I could do things better. I had ‘done my research’ and wanted an unassisted homebirth. Thankfully, I was convinced out of that with gentle, caring, discussion because…

“Build themselves up by reflexively rejecting anything perceived as authoritative” brilliantly captures the mindset

It warms the cockles of my heart to hear stories like this, as they tells me that people can be reached and that what we do, as often as it seems like it's in vain, does have an effect.

Vaccine-hesitant
≠ Stupid.

Digging your heels in because you think you're right due to mis/dis/lack of information about something you have no expertise in
= Kinda stupid.

Politically motivated antivaxxers
= Totes stupid.

Great thread, doc! ⬇️⬇️

I'm so glad to hear Kay has come round. I am still baffled that we have so many who believe this nonsense, who have been suckered into accepting lies.

This is an amazing story. I'm glad everything turned out well.

A useful perspective on helping people learn critical thinking in order to make more informed decisions in an era fraught with conspiracies, opinions and flawed logic.

Very relatable thread as I was vax hesitant for quite a few years pre-covid.

That's an ''amazing'😂😂😂 story. Sad that it's always amplify only one or two people who 'genuinly' praise the inefficient vaccine, but ignore the sea of injuries and deaths that it caused. We are less 10% vaxxed in Africa, where covid is now non-existant! Learn from us!

Good for you for your openness. My poor sister bought into that mindset and it was torture for her and her babies. They screamed for years. Insisted on breastfeeding when she could not. They were starved. Developed childhood illnesses in their teens.

Why do you trust the experts in countries where children are twice as likely to die, as opposed to listening to the experts where they have better results? twitter.com/factbid/status…

I had a friend who seems to have gone the other way. Science to crunchy. 😬

Heavily MT @CanadianKayMD: Wellness grifters prey on parents who want the best for their kids and are either:
• scared and misinformed (generally open to discussion) or
• build themselves up by reflexively rejecting anything perceived as authoritative (often very adversarial)
