So, not COVID related, however, this is REALLY exciting news I wanted to share. Only a Phase I study, BUT clinical trial results for HIV vaccine candidate eOD-GT8 60mer have shown 97% of participants (ALL but one) generated an antibody response against HIV! That is ASTOUNDING.

Hey, not Covid related but if you ask me it's something similarly important! This is huge! (It makes me happy people actually work on "lower priority" diseases, especially since this one... Affects a ton of completely innocent people and is highly damaging.)

I was taught the issue with HIV is that it's able to infect CD4+ dendritic cells in the rectal/vaginal epithelium, where there are few antibodies present to intercept it. That creates a reservoir of virus that slowly advances infection even if antibodies are present.

I studied up on medical science of the human body about 19 years ago in a 1000+ page book published back in 1998. It detailed how some methods of immunity training for HIV was impossible and basically science fiction. Here we see colossal progress beyond 1990s imagination.

Chise, I love you! You, more than anyone, got me through COVID (from a factual, analytical perspective). So I am thrilled *obvs* that there may be an answer to HIV, but I just want you to know that you are an amazing human & a lot of us are deeply grateful for you just being you!

The scourge of an entire generation, millions of lives lost, millions more affected by loss, already-struggling Africa devastated... This is it. The end of HIV/AIDS. Our children and children's children are gonna be SO DAMN HEALTHY.

This is incredible. Would an HIV vaccine be worth giving post-exposure?

The joy I received through reading this post, modern medicine and bio-science is really amazing!!

Fuuuuuuck yes! This is freaking cool as hell medical science!!!

I honestly really, really hope y'all are able to grasp just how important 镁is is. HIV/AIDS is merciless and absolute; several S. African countries have prevalence rates approaching 25%, greatly hampering development.

It finally just may be it -- light at 镁e end of 镁e tunnel.

Omfg this just made me well up.
Wow.
It鈥檚 a shame it took a pandemic to get the money for this science but my goodness what an outcome!
This really is incredible 馃コ馃コ馃コ

Would this be useful to people already with HIV as well as people without?

As a hypochondriac, I love when you post positive health news, no matter what it is!

As someone who grew up during the AIDS crisis and the fear mongering people gave into about LGBTQ communities back then, this is exciting news!

This is massive news. Do you have any, ANY idea how difficult it is to come up with an effective treatment, much less a vaccine, for a retrovirus?

In reply to @sailorrooscout
I dream for the day we won't have to worry about HIV.

Wow. Such good positive news from an unexpected corner. Thank you!

I haven鈥檛 seen the science, but鈥 is this it? Is this an actual HIV vaccine?

I can鈥檛 even imagine it. I was 6 when Ryan White was diagnosed. I can鈥檛 even wrap my brain around this.

In reply to @sailorrooscout
Imagine if this gets locked behind an expensive paywall by pharma? Tons of profit potential, eitherway I hope this becomes widely available!

In case you haven't already seen this great news, @MikeGGibbs.

It's too late. Anyone who actually has a brain will never trust vaccines again. Nor should they. Medical science is dead and they did it to themselves by deliberately lying to us about Covid.

In reply to @sailorrooscout
Does it induce HIV specific memory B cells?

This should be immediately mandated in every single person鈥tarting with the military and babies!

Ronald Reagan would never have given government funds toward this when AIDS first appeared.

Isn鈥檛 that what they told us about the Covid vax at first?

In reply to @sailorrooscout
Imagine that. Some actually run trials that looked at whether or not something may be worthy of getting out to public. Definitely not about Anything C19.

In reply to @sailorrooscout
Yeah, just like the experimental CV19 drugs were said to be 100% effective鈥 Can鈥檛 trust anything BIG PHARMA says or does ever again.

In reply to @sailorrooscout
So wait. Am I crazy, or are you saying that this vaccine could potentially cure someone's HIV? Or even prevent it to begin with? I don't wanna hype myself up over a misunderstanding but. Wow. Just wow. That is. Incredible. I love science so much. It's so amazing.

Hey, good news! Hope this vaccine works. Having a vaccine against HIV would be an unreal advancement.

In reply to @sailorrooscout
Let me guess,it's mRNA based vaccine? Everything from now onwards will be that technology..waiting for mRNA Tylenol
