This. Flights between Sydney and Canberra should be banned.

Get the bus or the train.

Dedicated bus lane on the M5 and massively expand and upgrade the pitiful train service
Been saying this was going to happen. Sooner than I expected! 👍

absolutely fucking based holy shit
In reply to @_dmoser
If only our trains worked. We could do same. Took train London to Edinburgh. Cost twice as much and took three times as long. Sort it out
In reply to @_dmoser
Taking options away from ppl reduces their quality & sometimes quantity of life. You now have to take a train to get a heart to the transplant patient instead of flying it in, to save the environment, not the person. Can you think of other times it might be better to fly?
This is what we need to see :)
L if it takes longer on the train. You can’t get time back.
Imagine still having a functional passenger train network.
Let the banning of flights begin! 🙌 As much as would love to show my kids the world, I would much rather save it first. #BanPrivateJets #BanFlight #climate #ClimateAction
Only possible with High Speed rail!
Frankreich setzt ein Zeichen 😄🇫🇷🚆
The ease of travelling by train in most parts of europe makes the train a far better option (environmentally, convenience etc). Probably a good move.
In reply to @_dmoser
Only for three years and from the original 8 routes it's down to 3 :/…

Stupid language be damned, the French do some good stuff
In reply to @RailfutureEA
@RailfutureEA working hard to strengthen the rail alternatives here in 🇬🇧 and yesterday outlined their 30 year vision for a more connected East Anglia, including opportunities for light rail & tram-train to Wisbech/ Haverhill… great to know some are thinking long-term!
We can do this when we have a comprehensive high speed ra... Oh.
Rozumím úvaze za tímto rozhodnutím. Preferuji však jiná řešení, než striktní zákazy, například uhlíkové daně či emisní povolenky.
In reply to @_dmoser
To be fair to the old frenchies my Paris to Lyon train the other day was superb.
Sendo alguém que ama aviões, ÓTIMA decisão
In reply to @_dmoser
Would love that here if we had any train service to talk of, and if what we did have didn’t cost a fortune .
PSA: If you’re going to France from London, they’ve banned all short haul flights in France now so consider the Eurostar for these journeys.
In reply to @_dmoser
Wann verbietet 🇩🇪 Kurzstreckenflüge @OlafScholz? #klimakrise
500 a 600 Km (Santiago - Concepcion)
Wow France is just kicking our ass huh.
…Netherlands meanwhile opens five more steal factories, three more airports and tarmacs over our biggest nature reserve to give factory farmers a little more room to butcher 500 million animals a year. 👌
In reply to @_dmoser
Private jets exempt*
France bans short haul domestic flights. Why not increase the cost of emissions and support electrification?…
In reply to @_dmoser
We have taken away your prefered option in favor of an option prefered by people who are in your shoes.
North Carolina should ban intrastate flights! @NCDOT @NCRailroad
Save the planet by riding trains thank you France.
So glad we’ve done the same here 🙌
In reply to @_dmoser
would like to enter the chat.
In reply to @_dmoser
What about private jets?
In reply to @_dmoser
Doesn’t everyone… no wait… oops. Countries with domestic car oligarchs don’t. 🤨
In reply to @_dmoser
And it official: 3 routes are banned only. The rest are "exceptions" to the rule.. A very minor step in the right direction or simply #greenwashing
In reply to @_dmoser
Outstanding leadership !! Truly world class politicians !! Trudeau and co should take a good long look at how true leaders lead and don’t let their domestic fossil fuels industry run his country! Shameful how all CDN govts bow to their fossil fuels overlords!
Innerdeutsche Flüge auf den Prüfstand stellen

In reply to @_dmoser
One reason I'll never choose to live in France.
In reply to @_dmoser
Like the idea, but the big issue is that you could be putting extra pressure on rail networks.
If only we could do this in the UK
Frankreich sehr sehr based.
Wann Fortschritt auch in DE? @OlafScholz
In reply to @_dmoser
A step in the right direction.
In reply to @_dmoser
Good leadership. 👏👏

Meanwhile in Canada

In reply to @_dmoser
It’s about time the US copies high speed rail. I just couldn’t understand for a monolithic continent and no decent high speed railway.
In reply to @_dmoser
Makes sense for a country roughly the size of Texas. The US should have more medium haul, intercity options like this.
In reply to @_dmoser
If only they had the foresight to have a world class rail network before making such a move. What fools they are 😜
In reply to @_dmoser
That happens when you invest in transport infrastructure
Wonder what PSG are thinking about this.
In reply to @_dmoser
What a rubbish. This increases travel time and reduces travel quality.
Pioneering - even though it’s a relatively modest move. We need to act. I despair that we’re such laggards.
While not enough, it's definitely a serious step in the right direction.
In reply to @_dmoser
You need a very efficient train system to do that! we don't have that train system in UK.
In reply to @_dmoser
Also private ones?
In reply to @_dmoser
Can’t we do more of this instead of destroying more small family farms???
Definitely a great step forward.
In reply to @_dmoser
Next step: ban those trains. Peasants shall not travel
In reply to @_dmoser
It won’t last long as big strikes will come up very shortly in France with train lines. French people won’t accept that.
In reply to @_dmoser
Following the example we set in Powys.
