Over half the households in Britain get more from the state than they pay in tax...while the top 10% of earners account for 53% of all income tax. We cannot have less than 50% of the population supporting the majority. It's just not fair.

You're pointing out that wages are too low and rich people are overpaid, Lee

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
The richest 1% have taken almost 2/3 of new wealth since 2020. If the top 10% are paying 53% of tax, they're still paying less than their fair share, even if tax rates were even. And that's just income tax. VAT is regressive - the poor pay more as % of income 1/2 pic.twitter.com/IXjuzOxJZJ

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
It is almost as if there is massive wealth inequality in the UK. Maybe we should pay the key workers more? After all, you never hear of folk on PAYE dodging income tax by setting up offshore discretionary funds. pic.twitter.com/K2k11Bkz5c

That's interesting Lee. Do you think it's anything to do with the top 10% of people in the UK holding 53% of the country's wealth or is that just a coincidence?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Read more & you see that the Mail's interpretation of 'benefits' include the NHS, education, the state pension & so on. Appalling Tory MPs such as 30p Lee are now demanding tax cuts. What a shabby administration this is, nasty, vindictive & destructive. #ToryCorruption

48% of UK wealth in the hands of 1% of the population 63% of the wealth in the hands of 10% So what you are really saying 50% people don’t have enough Perhaps a better way to redistribute wealth is for pay to rise for those who don’t have enough pic.twitter.com/ECOHHH9vzg

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Many would agree it's not fair that the government has made policy choices that have made the majority of people poorer.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
You seem to hold most of your electorate in contempt and expect them to re-elect you. How's that gonna work out for you?

So rare to see an MP literally calling a majority of his constituents freeloaders.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
The top 10% of earners account for 53% of the UKs TOTAL wealth. With over 40% of UC claimants already in work I’m glad you want to fight for higher wages. Join a picket line and support the unions. Also get Zahawi to pay his taxes next time and teach Boris how to budget 👍

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Not sure that you’ve realised that this is a great argument for socialism Lee?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Cube head here claimed 200k on pure spaff in a year… ex Tory MP to be..,

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
A shocking rise caused by 13 years of Tory policy. Tories saying that workers should accept wages rises lower than inflation. That keeps people on benefits. It’s a vicious circle caused the Tories. And here you are complaining about where this government have put people.

Hang on, isn't most of this due to the existence of the state pension?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Pay them enough to afford the cost of living then.

The benefit cap means the most a person can get is £296.35/week if they’re single and living in London. (CAB, 2023)

Baroness Mone is thought to have made up to £100m from bad PPE deals.
(That’s 6,500yes of benefits)

Sorry, what’s not fair?!

Talk about #somethingfornothing🙄

Lee Anderson claimed more in expenses in one year than most people claim in benefits in a lifetime.

You're a parasite Lee, one of many we need rid of..

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Assume pensioners are part of this but you are too thick or disingenuous to mention this - is this why your corrupt and lying mates don’t pay their taxes? You are a disgusting human with your £300k a year for yourself and underpaid young girls and your subsidised meals

The British are whingeing that the top 10% of earners now pay 53% of all income tax.

In Ireland they already pay 61% & SF say it isn’t enough. Our bottom 75% pay just 18% of all income tax & SF say this is too much.

SF’s tax policy is verifiably to the left of Jeremy Corbyn’s.

In the mind-blowing political experiment that is the Tory party in government, the latest strategy is taking on pensioners directly, not just killing them by destroying the NHS

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Totally agree lee I can't wait to see you start forcing companies to pay more to their staff so that don't have to have poverty wages topped up by the government Less to the shareholders more to the workers Less profit for business more to workers Surly this is what you mean

Lee Anderson MP.

Majority: 5,733.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
The introduction of the minimum wage and tax credits has a lot to do with this. It's madness that the State is subsidising the wage bills of huge profit making corporations.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
If I was a member of the party which has been in power for 13 years, I probably wouldn’t be highlighting the fact that you’ve created a system where you’re having to subsidise businesses that pay people so little that they’re heavily dependent on state support to survive.

Lee Anderson (MP!!!) gets his news from the Daily Mail and the back of cornflakes boxes. The cornflakes boxes are a more reliable source but the Mail gives him the headlines he wants to believe.

Good hard working folk become fewer and fewer 3rd or 4th generation slackers grow more and more its been going this way for some time. Cut benefits, stop paying able bodied people to do nothing.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
And Labour think we can take more money from these hardworking folk, it will destroy the country. Look what happened to the French economy when the socialists raised the highest rate of tax to 70%.

Pensioners in Ashfield I hope you will remember what your MP thinks of you come the next election. 11 million of these households are retired.

“Tax small children as they are such awful spongers” is a bad look, Lee

It is incredible that these people have not only created a society which is entirely propped up by the state subsidising the subsistence wages of companies and the extortionate rents of landlords - but then have the temerity to blame the poorest trying to survive for it.

The owner ofcthe daily fail has nkn dom status and the skewed report is a tufton Street fantasy

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
And you have one of the highest expenses claims for an MP. Why is that you are unable to budget Lee? Also nice touch quoting a publication whose owner pays literally no tax in the UK

In reply to @post_liberal
Pensioner spending is the biggest item in the social security budget (accounting for 47% of the total in 2022-23.) So this is either anti-pensioner rhetoric from LA or he doesn’t realise that the state pension is the largest single item of welfare spending obr.uk/forecasts-in-d…

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Is this another made up Daily Mail headline? I don’t know a single person who gets a penny (including myself). Publish the government data to support this story please @ONS

When you don't understand the difference between proportion of human population and proportion of country's wealth.

I wonder what the statistics are like specific to Scotland. 🤔

I suspect it would be something along the lines of, "every SNP voter gets far more from the state than they put in, while non-SNP voters pay 99% of all income tax which is at a higher rate than the rest of the UK".

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Never claimed a penny in my adult life, when do I get my loyalty bonus? 😂😂😂

Lee dear, they’re including benefits in kind’ such as health and education spending suggesting’benefits’ amount to £23000 Pa. Bit of a click bait tweet I think. Oh and #ToriesDestroyingOurCountry

Why do you hate pensioners who have paid tax all their lives Lee? And you think low wages have nothing to do with you?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
What is taken from me every month is nothing more than theft. It’s the difference between me surviving as opposed to thriving. All to give money to total strangers.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
There wil be at least another 80,000 #gimmigrants that I, as an OAP taxpayer, will be asked to fund too this year. The Tories are a joke when it comes to protecting our borders & low taxes. This is #BlueLabour not the Tories I want to vote for. @10DowningStreet

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Complete state dependency of all citizens appears to be the ultimate goal.

The root of this is Blair/Brown introducing tax credits so large corporates can pay peanuts and the state makes up the shortfall.

Those two corporate vultures are still at it, and the media love them for it.

Why don't any of todays politicians have the guts to call this out ?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Lee, I know you know this and I know you don’t care, but your comment is predicated on a low wage economy feeding those rich people huge amounts of cash. The money they pay in tax is earned for them by those you complain about.

30p Lee highlighting that his Tory party have created a system where business is subsidised to pay low wages, and where the wealth gap is so big that the richest people in the country earn so much that they have to pay more tax than 50% of the rest us.

Lee isn’t very bright.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
But the wealthiest 10% hold just more than half the UK's wealth how do you suggest the other 90% get some of that wealth so they can contribute more taxes? Shall we just take it? Go out robbing? Or should the underpaid exercise their democratic right and strike for more pay?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
It's entirely fair. My friend earns less then me - therefore it is right and proper that I pay more tax for public services than he does. You want to half the welfare bill at a stroke though Lee? Pay people properly, including supporting workers who strike for it.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Thought you might like to believe this! You are one of the biggest scroungers. Ps how is #Poor Katy?

Have you noticed the number of ILLEGAL poncers arriving at the UK's door ??
Dipstick !!
& being housed in 5* Ho-stels--then found housing
You W Anchor -double FFS for that one

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
So is Lee advocating taking ALL the wealth off the rich and sharing it? That way it wouldn't be "less than 50%" paying tax, but a fairly paid workforce. Sounds good to me.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Why are people in work having to claim benefits, Lee? Could it be that they are being paid slave wages that don't keep up with inflation and the cost of just getting by? #ToryCostOfGreedCrisis

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Abolish this entire trend of dependency on the state and stop high state taxes!

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Not being paid a wage you can actually live on is not fair.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
That's from Tufton Street, again. The place is already full of tax dodgers

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
From the ONS, half of those receiving more benefit than paying taxes are pensioners. Are they freeloaders in Toryland, too? pic.twitter.com/2nsAYZ81b8

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
MP Lee Anderson claims more in expenses each year than he pays in UK taxes ironically is complaining ! UK state pensioners income is so low that you qualify for housing benefits if you live in local authority or privately rented #ToryCostOfGreedCrisis #ToryTaxEvasion

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Aww, poor rich people! /s Others made great points on what's fair. In addition, of course it is in a cost-of-living crisis that more people get to the point of needing benefits. The key to reversing that is a working plan to end austerity & stop starving the victims.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Utter lies. You have absolutely no credibility left so you just spout this balderdash. You’re quite comfortable though with £35bn peed up the wall on test track and trace and £8bn wasted on substandard PPE purchased through your mates’ shell companies? Shame on you.

Benefit system is broken, IT pays you to be a single parent.. Bring back the family premium and you’ll find men will come out of the wood work.. Limited out of work benefits to 6 months for those without kids, that’ll get people to work

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Just a thought here: You take home circa 80k. Pay tax of about 25k on that. You claim 200k in expenses. So you must be one of the 50%?

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
It’s not that difficult to do your research. 42% of the Welfare budget is made up of pensions 60% of people who are on #UniversalCredit are in work. pic.twitter.com/iLACT66O1A

Having looked at the report, this includes education (so if you have children, them attending state school), and health. Having ill health or your kids getting an education being reframed as “dependency” on the state…!!

How this halfwit ever became a MP is a total mystery to me!
I fear my country is no longer the country I thought it was, maybe it never was 😥

Small to medium businesses have been the real whipping boy. Stop squeezing the life out of them & just maybe we can employ more people, give them a decent wage & grow our the economy.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
That’s right, it’s called the wealth divide. Just the other day you implied we should all be surviving on a basic wage. So what’s it to be? Don’t say austerity because that clearly hasn’t worked.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
You’ll never get it. To balance it out all that needs to happen is people to be paid a wage they can live on. 12 years of Tory rule has done this.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
People of Britain: This is the issue we have with the Tories. They have made us poor. And now are blaming us for being poor. Absolute vile behaviour. #ToriesDestroyingOurCountry

The Gaslight Free version: Over half of households in UK get more from the state than they pay in tax...while the top 10% of earners account for 53% of income tax. We cannot have such birthright induced greed forcing the majority into abject poverty just because of chance. pic.twitter.com/iVApDfApdT

🤯 Personal responsibility is dying out

Last week #30pLee was all concerned with suicide and it's prevention. Today, one of the greediest baskets in the country says this. The astonishing lack of understanding of basic economics, arithmetic, cause and effect is breathtaking. The lack of self awareness is breathtaking..

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
It's not fair that the poorest workers on minimum wage, flogged to death til nearly 70, subsidise their rich employers, because they know they don't have to pay a living wage if universal credit means they can keep employees poor. We subsidise the rich.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
You should probably work on creating a better working environment then. Perhaps if some were to hold public displays of how they were struggling you could work on supporting them and making a better, fairer country?

Can you imagine under labor. This is bad enough. They will want to tax the ‘rich’ more and have more people living off a nanny state… 🤷🏼‍♂️

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
Are you waking up yet ? When the state does everything for you, it will soon take everything from you - you will then have no basis for personal freedom, political freedom, or economic freedom.

Tories say half of UK households are "takers" and scroungers, which includes pensioners, people in higher education, parents, disabled people...

But the biggest number are workers, on a low income, in receipt of in-work benefits and tax credits.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
If people were paid a real, living wage, instead of being trapped in minimum wage slavery where they have to rely upon benefits, this might not be the case. Those benefits are, in effect, a boost to profits and dividends. You, sir, are a tw*t.

In reply to @LeeAndersonMP_
The govt must stop sending our $ to foreign countries like Ukr & stop allowing economic migrants to invade their shores, putting them up in 4/5* hotels, everything paid for! Lock them up until theyre #deported You dont put criminals in hotels you put them in jail! #BrokenBritain
