The Redmond Police Department uses GPS tracking to follow suspects -- rather than traditionally pursue them. Here's an example of how the technology works, via the Redmond PD. Police get close and fire a tracker onto the car.

They will do one better and just require GPS tracking as a componant of licensing and taxation.. It is a componant to several bills being considered in the legislature. pic.twitter.com/zjJCUAMD0z

And then once the cop backs off, the person stops, gets out of the car, walks to the back of the car, pulls the unit off their car, throws it on the ground, steps on it, and drives away laughing. 😂

Without a warrant? I thought most places needed a warrant to put a GPS on a car?

As cool as this tech is, no. Cops shouldn't have this orwellian technology.

Well I think that is smart and they found a way to get around the pursuit.

This is an unacceptable use of Orwellian power and taxpayer money. Redmond PD is a lazy police force. This tells the community they would rather arrest ANYONE after the crime instead of the guilty party during the crime in progress, allegedly… Unacceptable…

Don’t you have to pursue to tag the vehicle? And once left to speed off, a quick stop and drop the tag or place on another vehicle and poof, you’re gone. I’m guessing it’s magnetic so there is a 50% chance it won’t hit metal too. How about a crossbow bolt? Like Green Arrow. 🤣
