It's pretty common, the entire Hearst set of ABCs does it and several others AFAIK
just looked this up and my mind is blown. millions of people across the country are getting truly terrible PQ on their ABC stations and ABC just... goes along with it!?
In reply to @bubbaprog
After the ATSC 3.0 launch my NBC duplexed their 1.0 with a co-owned station, they're down to 7.5M for 1080i 🥴 I have a 1080i ABC too and they're down to about 9
if you have a 1080i ABC there is something seriously wrong
In reply to @bubbaprog
Because of the movement in most sports or lack thereof in golf?
In reply to @bubbaprog
Doesn't 1080i become super grainy and blurry for high action sports
Replying to @oliverpeabody24
it has pixelation issues due to inherent problems with MPEG-2 encoding and interlaced content unless sufficient bandwidth is given (which is almost never; the only time I saw a good 1080i picture was when Gainesville's NBC launched & it had no subchannels)
1. For almost all sports 720p is superior to 1080i. Golf is maybe the exception.

2. Fox Sports obviously has no control over the corporate decision made two decades ago to use 720p over 1080i anyway.
Does Fox still use crappy 720p as their "HD" standard for sports? If so... they suck.
In reply to @bubbaprog
you could get away with halving the chocolate topping so it's just a thin layer and I think that would be good/not too over the top
Replying to @lizchar
then i'll try that! thanks!
In reply to @bubbaprog
What were they using before, BT709?
Replying to @nut_bunnies
it was never 709 but there's three different things that have to be right (iirc it's like colorspace, pixel format, and gamma format) and they never had all three right. sometimes there was no info at all
In reply to @bubbaprog
This is the first time all season that my Fox affiliate's ATSC 3.0 HDR tone-mapping isn't full of blown-out whites with pixelated, shimmering edges. They're still down-sampling to 720p, but the color is gorgeous.
Replying to @LegendOfVinnyT
holy cow they already have HDR enabled on your ATSC3? ours is just 1080p (lol) which yes looks very nice but it's also stuffed into a lighthouse with the other three networks so not really enough bandwidth to make it a huge step forward

this is maybe the richest thing i've ever eaten?? definitely use salted peanut butter, and I put sea salt on top, which I recommend…
Replying to @lizchar
is it too rich? i think i have my limits after which the returns become not just diminishing but inedible.
After an entire season of Fox screwing up its "4K" streams, it appears they finally figured out the right sequence of keys to press to send the right colorspace information in the stream.
weather looks nice in tampa today. wonder if i’ll be there a month from today for the start of spring training or not hahahahaha

Earlier the Fox hosts were astonished that in response to the question, "What is your favorite Tom Brady play?" Jalen Hurts said "I don't have one."

what kind of person is walking around with a favorite Tom Brady play? psychopaths, that's who

It haunts all of us.

LoLol. Oh, for sure man.
Jim & Melissa Porklepud from from Martinsville, IN are deeply invested in the fate of a weirdo Serbian vegan tennis guy. So much so, they’re cancelling they’re family trip Melbourne, where they were definitely going, and not Orlando for the twelfth time.

As we recognize Dr. King this weekend it's often all too easy to think of the civil rights era and the efforts to eliminate segregation as distant history. Joe B. Hall died TODAY.
"Teams that tried like crazy to beat Joe, now are so proud that he's from our area"

We went back to Joe Burrow's hometown to get a look at where he started before his playoff debut ❤️

@bubbaprog Any idea why the broadcast quality for the Duke-NC State game is so bad? Colors look waaaay off.

It's a UCF & FSU tradition.

It's easy to forget how brutal the narrative was for a while. He had basically the Playoff P stigma + soft white Euro stigma. The TNT guys were Dwight-levels of brutal. It really all changed when he got the ring.

Same duo for football and basketball? Sorry for the questions, just very interesting!

there's maybe a half dozen of them. they call everything, from australian rules football to baseball.
In reply to @bubbaprog
How do they choose the programming that gets Russian commentary? And are these announcers doing a remote broadcast or are they at the game?
Replying to @FSUAndrew
They are not at the games. And it's basically whatever the best game ESPN has the rights to, whenever possible.
