I guess what I still don't get is, after all this time, how someone wouldn't instantly think, "Wait, isn't this just going to constantly incentivize arguments? Won't people correcting a loud and wrong person, then going back and forth, be first in perpetuity?"

Well one, this was back in February of 2016 – about.fb.com/news/2016/02/r…. Two, reactions were used a lot less back then and anger was the least used. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have done things differently, but honestly I’m not convinced this was one of our bigger mistakes.

I was talking mostly about Newsfeed incentivizing long, winding comment threads, like the one in the Katie Notopoulos article from the internal research, which I suppose was buffeted by the emoji reax.
