Should dogs be banned from children's play areas?

A council in Staffordshire is bringing in stricter rules - so no dogs will be allowed in playgrounds, or tennis courts.

But is it unfair on responsible owners?

Been like that for years where I am, the swings in the parks are fenced in with signs saying no dogs and no smoking. Double whammy for Beagles.

Dogs toilet once or twice per day depending on how you feed them. They tend to go at the start of exercise. All you have to avoid is driving to a playground and going immediately to it without having walked the dog first or they will poo immediately.

All dogs should be on a lead ,,you never know when It will bite ,,the amount of times I've heard ,my dog won't bite ,then has

Where else can dogs poo if not the sandpit?

Dogs are not allowed in parks here with grating at the entrance so that dogs can’t cross! Dog 💩 is bad enough on the streets never mind a park! Keep em all out I say! @PoliceScotland don’t hand out enough fines to owners not picking up after there pups!

Councils are already doing it. Most children benefit from having a dog in the family. You can take your children for a healthy walk with their dog, but can't take them in to play for the last half hour because their dog isn't allowed to go with them.

Im terrified of dogs and when someone lets their dog charge at me and says "dont worry its never bit anybody" really does my head in everydog has never bit someone till the day it does. Now i know not all dogs bite but some do

Think the issue is defining "responsible owner". Good or bad most dog owners would consider themselves responsible, so a blanket ban seems sensible

Have you tried getting a pitbull into a swing?

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
Responsible owners don't let their dogs shit in kids playgrounds....

Yes, dogs should be banned from children’s play areas. I think they’d be ok at tennis courts, as long as they’re tethered.

There will always be irresponsible dog owners there for responsible owners will suffer. As for dogs on tennis courts why.

Another banning topic but on this one I agree, I have a dog and as usual it's always the minority brain dead idiots that cause the problems. I see them all the time not picking up the dog poo let the dogs run on playing fields and not watching them. Tennis courts are fenced of??

Y not build dog parks wer children are not allowed?

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
Responsible dog owners wouldn’t do that in the first place.

This is not news - dogs already are not allowed in play areas or tennis courts. Perhaps you are just stirring up hate for dog owners.

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
There should be a fenced area for Dogs in parks

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
There's only one play area I walk past on a monthly basis that isn't fenced, and a sign politely requests dog owners to keep dogs on lead until they are on the open space. Everybody complies. Generally most tennis courts have a 20ft high fence round them as well.

The worst thing about making rules for dog owners is the majority of legislators, especially those who want to introduce controls, don’t have dogs and err towards cynophobia. They haven’t a clue what they’re interfering with. We are all being affected by their irrational fear.

Our parks are no go for dogs...this Leicestershire DE12

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
Such a non story 🙄dogs have never been allowed in play areas.

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
Yes it’s a children’s play area , not a dogs play area , simple

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
Now facts most children's play grounds allow no dogs and tennis courts the same so this isn't even a issue to talk about ,The bigger issue here is why does Jeremy hate dogs ?.

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
I have dogs and there’s no way I would take them to childrens play parks

In reply to @JeremyVineOn5
Yes it's so unfair. Our local parks allow no dogs, even if leashed. As a Mum with 2 young children I'm unable to take my dog for a walk and let the kids have a play in the park. This is one major inconvenience In my life to be honest.
