Housing isn鈥檛 a market, it鈥檚 a fundamental human right.

That鈥檚 why the next Labour government will build more houses, including more social homes, give new powers to renters, and help more first-time buyers onto the ladder 馃尮

The housing issue wouldn't be anywhere near as bad if you weren't welcoming the illegal economic migrants that are pouring in. Have you considered that you are part of the problem or is that an inconvenient truth Lisa? pic.twitter.com/U1lbTfbchI

In reply to @lisanandy
And leaseholders, Lisa? What are you going to do for the 10 million of us living as vassals to feudal lords in the leasehold tenure, being extorted daily? Will we finally get real home ownership in the first parliamentary session of a Labour government?

The problem is that the 'housing market' *isn't* a market.

Price signals are broken by state planning. The state prevents the market from building the houses it is crying out for.

Oh lord, the socialists are at it again.

Of course it鈥檚 a bloody market- the problem is government planning regulation, so the solution is *not* more government.

I repeat, the solution is NOT more government.

鈥淣ew powers to renters.鈥 Translated: Unless your income multiple is excellent, credit record is excellent with a home owning guarantor, you鈥檙e not renting a house or apartment in the private sector. These people just don鈥檛 get it 馃檮

"Housing isn't a market" Really? Supply/demand/price. What world does she live in?

Of course she's right, housing in the UK doesn't even remotely resemble a market. It's completely distorted by pointless regulations about what can be built and where, gamed by rent-seeking NIMBYs.

This doesn't make sense if "housing isn't a market" why would you set a target of 70% home ownership?

If you hadn鈥檛 sabotaged @jeremycorbyn in the 2019 general election, we鈥檇 now be three years into his extensive council house building programme. Your Blairite masters built 7,870 new council homes (1997-2010). You will follow suit. theguardian.com/politics/2019/鈥

Sort fleecehold out and you鈥檒l have thousands of votes.

Housing should always be seen primarily, as a human right/a basic need/a social good and not primarily, as a commodity/an investment opportunity.
Failure to invest in genuinely affordable/decent/safe/secure/sustainable housing is why we have an entirely avoidable housing crisis.

In reply to @lisanandy
Your party has years before to build a lot more social housing. Why didn鈥檛 you?

In reply to @lisanandy
The Labour 2019 manifesto had a commitment to rent caps, ending the 'right to buy' scheme, and a commitment to build 750,000 new green council homes. Will you match that or will it be diluted by 97% like most of your current policy?

In reply to @lisanandy
We have enough homes for the English but we have too many immigrants.

In reply to @lisanandy
"give new powers to renters" - renters are already protected - I am a landlord and selling up when my last tenant leaves - believe me I am not the only one! What about controlling housing associations under Labour control where the appalling tragedy of the 2 yr old happened?

In reply to @lisanandy
Lol, another worthless Nu Labour pledge

In reply to @lisanandy
House prices tripled under Sir 39 House Tony. That ruined the financial future of a generation & is arguably a greater factor in the cost of living crisis now than anything the Tories have thrown at us. Labour have a lot to make up for.

twitter.com/lisanandy/stat鈥 @UKLabour Shadow Levelling Up, Housing & Communities Secretary @lisanandy is right. Conservative Policies have cut funding to Local Government and housing: A Labour Govt will invest in social housing and cut waiting lists #GeneralElectionN0W @HackneyLabour

That's why nobody in Scotland votes for Labour any more, you are to busy lying and jumping into bed with your tory chums, can't tell the difference between tory and Labour traitors.

We already need a whole new city to house the 1 million + new immigrants. That鈥檚 a huge swathe of green space to be taken up and a whole lot of energy needed. England is already the most densely populated country in Europe. This is not healthy, for us or our country!

In reply to @lisanandy
Agreed but social homes should be insured and maintained by the tenant to engender the responsibility to look after it and reduce financial burdens on local councils. If people have to upkeep their council home it will be looked after proudly long term.

In reply to @lisanandy
You need to stop, or at least pause, right to buy and build up the stock of council houses.

In reply to @lisanandy
Wouldn鈥檛 need to build more if we just deported all the illegal immigrants and foreign criminals.

In reply to @lisanandy
But you are just offering more market solutions?

In reply to @lisanandy
We don鈥檛 want more social housing.

In reply to @lisanandy
Are you doing that in Wales, you know, the Wales governed by Labour Did you do it when you were last in government? As most landlords are decent people with one or two houses instead of a pension. How will you help them when a tenant refuses to pay there rent but the landlord still has to keep paying the mortgage. Will you let them go bankrupt, lose their homes, landlords need reassurance to.

In reply to @lisanandy
On Brownfield no problem.

In reply to @lisanandy
Labour won't and can't do much more than the Conservatives are doing now about things, there are too many do-gooders on this planet who haven't really got a clue about life.

In reply to @lisanandy
New powers to renters will mean less rentals available as single property landlords will sell up rather than have rent controls and no eviction leases. Just look at Dublin and Berlin.

In reply to @lisanandy
What a ridiculous statement!

But we are Lisa we are building lots of houses 鈥 the construction sector is at full stretch . We can with political support do more 馃憤馃徏

I'm a Labour voter but I disagree that we need more housing. We need more cinemas in this country, not more houses.

Given labour's appalling record on house building the last time they were in government why would anyone trust you on this issue now?

In reply to @lisanandy
There will never be enough houses until we stop the influx of people ....

Nothing that has to be provided with finite resources ( gathered usually by taxation ultimately backed up by force) can be a human right for infinite number of people. Abuse of the word" human right" makes it utterly meaningless.

In reply to @lisanandy
Liar those new builds will be for migrants as @Keir_Starmer has already said they come first

In reply to @lisanandy
Everything to everyone, How?

In reply to @lisanandy
Yes, housing supply is an issue - but a long term one. You need to focus on housing demand in the near term. The "build more" platitude (from all parties) is tiresome.

In reply to @lisanandy
What do you mean鈥 鈥 including social homes鈥 ? The government should be 鈥榦nly鈥 interested in building 鈥榮ocial鈥 homes. The private sector can get on with the private builds鈥 the country needs more social housing. @UKLabour is no better than @Conservatives . @jeremycorbyn 馃憤

Good landlords are getting shafted, bad ones and bad tenants seem to get away with poor housing and not paying. Focus on sorting the bad out otherwise we will have a problem

In reply to @lisanandy
Who's going to pay for the houses? Magic money trees again?

In reply to @lisanandy
Then how come you didn鈥檛 do it between 1997 and 2010?

In reply to @lisanandy
Could we stop saying more and start saying and planning for enough. It would be hard to not build more than this government has done. We need to fix the problem.

Well apart for the fact housing is a market, I do agree with idea of building more houses so tell me what a Labour government would do to build more houses exactly?

If workers cannot afford the houses, why the fuck build them.

Whereas, if they get paid properly, then they can afford them.

The house building is a lie, not able to pay people more, this is also a lie.

Labour for business AKA Labour are the Tories.

In reply to @lisanandy
This has got to happen, it cannot be an empty promise. For every adult that is homeless or has very poor housing, there is a whole string of people who are suffering as much as them because of their predicament.

In reply to @lisanandy
Social homes? We need public housing not charity.

Will it available to & include white British people or only the usual suspects ?

In reply to @lisanandy
Nonsense, Na-Na, it鈥檚 only a human right if the human can pay for it. With their OWN money, not with mine.

In reply to @lisanandy
The only reason you want to build houses is for all the foreigners u plan to bring to the country to live in
